Bob Greene Interview and a Giveaway!

     The Omron Campaign is coming to an end.  The past month I had the opportunity to not only count my steps, but to watch my heart rate.  As many of you know, wearing a pedometer is something that I have been doing since July of 2011.  However, it wasn’t until this campaign that I monitored my heart rate during workouts.  It is awesome to see how many calories burned and how quickly I am recovering from workouts and runs.  Using the pedometer and the heart rate monitor help me to see when I need to move more and when I need to increase the intensity.  These are two tools that I will continue to use during  my weight loss journey.  Speaking of my weight loss, during this campaign I lost 3.8lbs!
Last week I had the opportunity to interview Bob Greene!  He is a wealth of knowledge, narrowing the questions to ask him was quite the task!  Here is a summary of our conversation. 
Shannon:  What is the most underrated exercise?
Bob Greene:  Walking, it is anywhere you are.  You can accomplish it in almost any climate.  It is low impact.  We were built to walk.
Shannon:  In your experience what has a larger impact on weight loss food or exercise?
Bob Greene:  Start with exercise, it builds a calorie burning machine. Both are equally important. It puts a cap on how much weight you can gain.  The food is where you will earn your results.  You can fine tune your eating gradually.  I’m always in an evolution, constantly improving my eating.  
Shannon:  Are you planning on adding more foods with the Best Life seal and are you planning on adding any gluten free foods?
Bob Greene:  I just had a meeting yesterday about implementing our plan for Best Life Foods.  I didn’t set out to set up a food company.  It was really about addressing problems, that is why we started with spreads.  It was one of the biggest calorie and health issues on the planet.  Now we are looking at some of the problem areas, snacks is one of them.  The parent company, GFA, who now owns Best Life Foods is acquiring a gluten free company   
Shannon:  Juicing seems popular again.  Are you losing the benefits that you get with eating whole fruits and vegetables, such as fiber when you juice?
Bob Greene:  There are different levels of juicing.   The ones that do not maintain the fiber produce a thinner juice and you are losing fiber and nutritional value.  The ones that maintain the fiber produce a thicker juice.  We are very fiber deficient.   The best of both worlds is adding the juice to soups.  Juicing is a great drink replacement.

    Well, where do I begin. I have about 100 pounds to lose. I am a homeschool mom and all my time is dedicated to my children and my husband, very little time is spent on me. I need to think and work on getting my self healthy for my children and my husband and myself. I would be blessed to win a pedometer and Bob Greeneā€™s book to learn how to get healthy and what to do to get there. Lord knows I really need it.     I stopped by Omron FB page and didn't know that you had to keep your heart rate at a proper level for a minimum of 20 minutes to achieve an effective workout. 65% -85% of maximum heart rate is the proper level.. I just thought since my heart was pumping i was doing something right. wow… good to know.
